Articles From Your  Local Newspaper

 

Never overlook your local newspaper when looking for articles ideas. Over the years I have sold many articles to national magazines clipped from local newspapers. Students in my classes have sold to McCalls and others with personal interest stories that were first dug up by local reporters. One story involved  an older couple whose grandchild had been separated from them because of their son's divorce and his former wife's remarriage, decided to fight for the right to see the child. They finally went to court -- and won. The story of how they were awarded visitation rights has great meaning for others in their situation and is a heartwarming story for everyone.

                Be aware of local volunteers and human interests stories.  Here are some I found recently in out local newspaper:Tibetan monk Geshe Sangy works on the image of a sand mandala at St. Joseph’s Cultural Center. A Career Jump-Start: Area high schools shift senior projects into profession-oriented experiments  The over all idea deserves an  article and the individual student projects can probably be sold.
