Stay Ahead of
the Times
Many magazines today like to keep up with the latest developments in whatever
field they report on. For these magazines you need to be on the lookout for the
latest in medical advances, the newest fads, developing problems that haven’t surfaced yet, and anything else that the
magazine covers that could be considered new.
I know several article writers who do a superior job at this. One clips six or seven newspapers a day looking for anything new. Today you can do some of this on the
Internet. One day she noticed a small item in the local paper about a new program to help underachieving students by taking
them directly into the labs of large companies like IBM. Here they were exposed to the latest in scientific research. This
exposure revolutionized the lives of a number of them.
The article this lady wrote sold to a number of publications and generated
several assignments. Over the years she has stayed on the leading edge of the developments in her field and, as a result,
has become a regular contributor to a number of major magazines.
