The Media Kit
Every author needs a media kit they out to the press. This kit
supplies all the information a media personality will need to write a story about you or conduct an interview.
It provides the following information. In the cover letter you need A Hook (what makes your book unique) This allows a show producer to see why your book is different from others that come across
their desk. An Author Bio. Your Story. Explain briefly who you are and why
you wrote this book. The
Uniqueness of your book. Why is it
different from others and what the reader will get from the book. Information about the book, (the details and facts about
your book), a book cover if you have it or a postcard with the cover of your book on it. Talking Points. These are questions the media can ask you about your book. I used to make a list of 25
questions they could ask me when I was on tour.
Because some hosts don’t read or look at your book, they often ask the questions in the exact order listed. In the kit you will also want to include any endorsements you have had, the reviews
or interviews you have given and a news release about the book.
Make
sure you give them your contact information, your name, phone number, e-mail address and physical address.
If you
haven’t heard from the producer in about 2 weeks, then call and tell them who you are and what your project is…never,
never ask “have you read my book yet? And when can I expect to be on your program?” Chances are you will get the “We’ll get back to you.”
Of course you never hear from them again
